Learn to spot a scam yourself

Scam texts and emails are made to rush you and to look real. My Scam Sense is a calm place to check one before you act. Paste in a message that worries you and it points out the tell-tale signs — the false urgency, the odd link, the request for a code — and explains each one in plain words. It never tells you a message is “safe”; no tool can promise that. What it does is help you learn the signs, so you trust yourself the next time.

It opens in a new tab in your language, and works on a phone, tablet or computer — even offline once it’s open. Nothing you paste ever leaves your device.

What it does

  • Paste a suspicious text or email — headers and all — and it points out the warning signs one at a time. Tap any sign to see, in plain words, why it’s worth a second look.
  • It reads the message for the tricks scammers rely on: false urgency, requests for a code, a password or payment, prizes you never entered, and links that don’t go where they claim.
  • It never says a message is safe — only what it noticed. When in doubt, it points you back to the company yourself, using a number or website you find — never the details in the message.

Who it’s for

Anyone who wants a moment’s calm to check a worrying message before acting — and the families who worry about a scam reaching someone they love. No sign-up, no cost, nothing to install, and nothing you paste leaves your device.

Free, and a work in progress

This is an early prototype we’re sharing openly in the hope it helps. It can’t promise to catch every scam, and it will never tell you a message is safe — scams change every week. Treat it as a second pair of eyes and a way to learn the signs, not a guarantee. When something matters, check with the company directly, using contact details you find yourself. Use it, share it, and tell us what would make it better.
